No. 1655 Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Error port 2019-04-02

Dear Jens Ebert,

Thank you for your inquiry.
CSW-H85N is a Serial WLAN Device Server.
It allows you to add wireless networking capabilities to your serial-interfaced equipment via RS232, RS422 and RS485.

The typical working scenario of CSW-H85N is like below:
RS232/RS422/RS485-interfaced equipment <--> Serial interface <--> CSW-H85N <--> Wi-Fi interface <--> Network-interfaced equipment (***)

CSW-H85N can work well WITHOUT a Serial to USB converter cable.

You probably only need a Serial to USB converter cable in the following cases:

1) To connect CSW-H85N with ezManager via serial port:
You are ONLY required to connect CSW-H85N with ezManager via serial port in case you want to change firmware for CSW-H85N.
Actually, as in your case, you can connect ezManager with CSW-H85N via network.
You can do all the setting configuration on CSW-H85N. So you do not really need this function.

2) To make CSW-H85N communicate with your PC via serial interface:
In this case, the flow in (***) may become:
Your PC <--> Serial interface <--> CSW-H85N <--> Wi-Fi interface <--> Your PC

And Simple Test can be available in this case.
This test is used to verify network/serial conversion function of CSW-H85N.
Using this test, on your PC, you can send data via serial interface to CSW-H85N.
CSW-H85N converts data from serial to TCP, and then sends to your PC via network.
Your PC will receive the data you sent (from serial interface) via network interface.
That is how Simple Test works.
Note that the testing flow can be vice versa (send data from PC via network interface, receive via serial interface).

So, in general, you do NOT need a Serial to USB converter to make CSW-H85N work.
Maybe if you give us more information about your working scheme, we can provide more useful suggestions.

Please feel free to contact us if you have any inquiry.
Thank you very much.
Best Regards,
