No. 1856 Re: Re: Re: Re: Run ezVSP as Service - COM allocation limited to user 2022-01-24

Hello,

we start the ezVSP.exe as backgroundservice - you can find many instructions online how to do that - our service does the same. We initially developed it ~8 years ago for an other application because we had to monitor processes. Yes service will start without the GUI. So right now I have to configure everything properly with a serviceuser, stop exe and then start service. Starting the service means I can't do the configuration, this require stopping the service and starting the exe again. That's why it would be perfect if there is a solution from your side.

Thank you for the information.
Our development team will take a look at the reference software.

Meanwhile, we would like to know more about your customized service.
If possible, could you please let us know in detail how did you run ezVSP as a service?
Also, does that mean when you run the service, ezVSP.exe will start without GUI?

Thank you very much.
Best Regards,

I know that Ethernetboxen (already out of service) were using a pretty old Eltima Service Software.

Our service just run the ezVSP.exe as backgroundservice. Normally we would run this as system user, but like written this is not possible because ezVSP saves this COM allocation for user who configured this in GUI.

Side effect right now: Unfortunately we can't start the GUI anymore without stopping the service and starting the GUI manually. This logically leads to errors during the switch and that's why I would like to have an installation/button to run this application as service but GUI must still be available.

Thank you for the information.

ezVSP is developed using Eltima's ActiveX Controls.
As we checked, it may still require to have a GUI, and not support to run as a service.

It would be great if you can let us know the Eltima product that can work as a service as you mentioned.
That could be a useful reference for us.

By the way, could you also describe more about the customized service you are making? Does it run side by side with ezVSP, or without ezVSP running?
We just want to make sure we fully understand the customer applications.

Thank you very much.
Best Regards,

> Hello,

we already use several of your devices but I found in your Q&A (No. 1641) that we can't run ezVSP 5.0A as a service. It's possible to run ezVSP on system tray, but this doesn't help quite a lot with a Windows Server.

So that's why I tried running it as system by developing a service, which in fact worked pretty good. (attached screen) Unfortunately it seems like the COM allocation is stored in the GUI or somewhere else, which won't open as system or any other user. So it's limited to the user who configured the COM allocation.

It would be a huge help if you could tell me where this allocation gets saved or is there even a possibility to let ezVSP at startup read the COM allocation already done on this client (not limited to the user)?

Many thanks in advance for your help.

Richard
