No.286 ezTCP does not work! (Checklist) 29-11-2013
Category : can not

When you are in trouble working with ezTCP, please check the below list in order.

1. Fail in MAC Address Search

Num. Description
1) LAN cable connection Check if the cable connection is fine
2) Program Check if the right tool is in use.
3) Power Check if the adapter works fine.
4) Firewall Check if the Firewall is activated.
5) RTL8019 problem Check if the STS LED blinks rapidly.
6) Access Restriction Check if the access restriction is activated.
7) Multiple Network Interfaces Check if you have multiple network interfaces.
8) Windows Vista and Windows 7 Set binding IP address option, error 10013 - Search port occupation problem.
9) PING Test Try to send PING request.
10) [CSE-H20]RS232 Ports with RJ45 Check if the LAN cable is connected to the Ethernet port.
11) [Wi-Fi]WLAN security Check if the WLAN security options are enabled.

1) LAN cable connection

Because in some of products like EZL-50L/50M, 70 and 200L does not have the auto MDI/MDIX function, you should consider if the type of cable is right.
When connecting ezTCP with different type of devices such as switch/hub's normal port and cable/DSL modem's LAN port, you should use straight cable.
When connecting ezTCP with the same type of devices such as PC and another ezTCP, you should use crossover cable.
If the length of cable is longer that 100 meters, hub or repeater has to be set in the middle of the connection.
Users can Check if the cable connection is fine by LED states.
- After supplying the power : The PWR LED should be ON and the STS LED should blink in every second.
- After connecting with LAN cable: The LINK LED should be ON.

2) Program

- ezConfig: EZL-50L/M, 60L/M, 70, 80, 80C, 90, 200L, 200F and 300L/S
Note that the wireless LAN modules can be available after the Wi-Fi LINK is established.
- ezManager: CSE-M32, M73, H20, H21, CIE-H10 and CSW-H80
- ezConfigMP: EZL-410 and 400S
- ezSerialConfig: EZL-80, 80C, 90 and 300L/S(Serial)

3) Power

- Module type: If the stable power is supplied.
- External type: If the right adapter is used.

4) Firewall

Most of firewalls block broadcast packets on the network.
Because of configuration tools use UDP broadcast packet for searching products, users should inactivate it.

5) RTL8019 Problem

RTL8019 is a name of chip for network communication.
Even though those products do not operated in ISP mode, if the chip is damaged, the STS LED of some products blinks rapidly.
Don't confused the situation with the state of the ISP mode.

6) Access Restriction

ezTCP has the Access Restriction function and it also can be applied to configuration tool.
If this option is activated, searching with MAC address is not possible.
To revoke MAC Address search function, ezTCP should operate in ISP mode.
- I forgot the password for ezTCP.
(Go to see how to revoke this)

7) Multiple Network Interfaces

When using multiple network adapters, users should consider of the IP address of each adapter.
If there are the two or more IP addresses contained the same subnet, configuration tools send the searching packet through just one of them.
So, users should check all the IP addresses of each adapter for this.

8) Windows Vista and Windows 7

Set [Binding IP] at ezManager/ezConfig, if you have a PC with 2 Ethernet adapters.
Error 10013 : Check Search port(UDP50005) occupation cmd -> netstat -nab
Another process(ex, wmpnetwk.exe) may be used if then contact us.(support@eztcp.com)

9) PING Test

To verify the possibility of communication, PING test could be a simple way.
Try to send PING request and check if the response arrive or not.

10) [CSE-H20]RS232 Ports with RJ45

In case of using CSE-H20, check if the LAN cable is connected to one of the serial ports.
Because both serial and Ethernet are interfaced with RJ45 connectors, it is possible to confuse the ports.

11) [Wi-Fi]WLAN security

In case of serial to Wireless LAN products, the Wi-Fi link should be established before searching them.
Make sure that all the security options are the same with AP.

2. Fail in TCP connection

Num. Description
1) IP Address Check if the IP address is valid.
2) PING Test Try to send PING request.
3) Parameters Check if all the TCP parameters are correct.
4) Firewall Check if the Firewall is activated.
5) Operation mode Check which operation mode is in use.
6) 1:1 Connection Check if the other device is connected to ezTCP.
7) Access Restriction Check if the access restriction is activated.
8) ARP Cache Table Check if other devices are registerd on the ARP table.

1) IP Address

- When ezTCP has a private IP address such as 192.168.X.X, 10.X.X.X or 172.16.X.X, PC should be in the same subnet with it.
- Example 1 : [PC]192.168.0.100(255.255.255.0) <-> [ezTCP]192.168.0.101(255.255.255.0)
- Example 2 : [PC]10.1.0.2(255.0.0.0) <-> [ezTCP]10.1.0.1(255.0.0.0)
- Example 3 : [ezTCP]10.1.0.1(255.255.255.0) <-> [ezTCP]10.1.0.2(255.255.255.0)
*Caution : Never use an IP address which is already used on another device in the network.

2) PING Test

To verify the possibility of communication, PING test could be a simple way.
Try to send PING request and check if the response arrive or not.

3) Parameters

To make TCP connection, following parameters should be correctly configured.
- TCP Client : Local IP Address, Peer IP Address, Peer Port
- TCP Server : Local IP Address, Local Port

4) Firewall

Most of firewalls block broadcast packets on the network.
Because of configuration tools use UDP broadcast packet for searching products, users should inactivate it.

5) Operation mode

In ISP mode, TCP connection can not be established.

6) 1:1 Connection

Except for supporting multi-monitoring option, ezTCP can make one TCP connection at the same time.
Because of this, if another host is already connected with ezTCP, users can not be connected with it.

7) Access Restriction

ezTCP supports access restriction.
By using this option, users can filter TCP connection requests from remote hosts which are not allowed.
Check if the IP or MAC address of your PC or device are blocked by this option.

8) PC Cache Table

When testing with two or more products with an IP address, check if the previous product's MAC address is still valid on the ARP table.
If it remains, try again after removing all the contents of the table.

3. Fail in serial communication

Num. Description
1) Cable Type Check if the right cable type is in use.
2) COM port Check if the right number of COM port is in use.
3) Parameters Check if all the serial parameters are correct.
4) Loop Back Test Try data communication with loop back test.

1) Cable Type

When connecting PC's COM port, RS232 crossed cable should be used.
RS232 has three basic signal lines and those are TX, RX and GND.
You should connect TX line to the other's RX line and RX line to the other's TX line.

2) COM port

Please check the COM port number.
If another serial program is opening the port, the port should be closed first.

3) Parameters

Check all the serial parameters such as baud rate, stop bit, data bit, parity and flow control.

4) Loop Back Test

Try to send data with loop back.
